About Us

1906

Trading Started as H. Incledon & Co.
Identifying the growing South African gold mines as a promising market for pipes, valves and pipe fittings, Herbert Incledon of Edgbaston Birmingham started trading as H Incledon & co in 1906.

First consignment dispatched to Johannesburg
Using his experience gained at Lloyds & Lloyds - the forerunner to Stewarts & Lloyds - the first consignment was dispatched to Johannesburg and sold by Robert Philpot - his South African agent.

Brother Walter takes up the reigns
By the end of the first year the fledgling company had shown a small profit and the mines soon began to depend on the quality workmanship of Incledon. Tragically, Herbert passed away and it was left to his brother, Walter - then foreign manager of Lloyds & Lloyds - to take up the reigns.

Increased Demand results in Expansion
To meet the increased demand for steel pipe, the company acquired Lambert Brothers (Wallsall), and soon began exporting steel pipes and fittings to South Africa. This aspect of the operation was handled by another Incledon brother, Arthur - who had also worked for Lloyds & Lloyds.

Expansion Fever
During the depression years, Gerald Incledon, Herbert’s son, joined the newly established Durban branch and very soon the company began to expand. The expansion fever reached the Johannesburg operation, and coincided with the news that Robert Blakeborough, the Yorkshire valve manufacturer, had appointed H. Incledon & Co. the sole South African agency for his products.

1947

In 1947 a Blakeborough - Incledon plant was established in Benoni to manufacture valves. Incledon & Lamberts was formed as a holding company.

Mid 1950’s

The company has become well established as a supplier to the engineering and building industries as well as public authorities by the mid 1950’s.

1951

In 1951 the company was listed on the London Stock Exchange. At the same it was decided to put the company in the hands of a South African board of directors and a new company was formed - H. Incledon & Co. (South Africa)

1979

In 1979 Boumat Limited acquired the shareholding and the decision was taken to re-enter the pipe, valve and pipe fittings supply market.

1999

Management, having been in the industry for many years, acquired the company from Boumat and re-entered the plumbing and civil markets as well as retaining the markets developed since inception.

2001 Onwards

Incledon Cape (Pty) Ltd was formed as a separate legal entity via a management buyout by management of the Cape Town Branch. The operation has flourished and now operates in the Fire, Air-conditioning, Civil, Plumbing, Agricultural and Municipal markets, supplying various types of pipes, fillings and valves utilized for the conveyance of water, gasses and liquids.
